Life on aThree Legged Camel ™

Tales that connect generations, cultures, and hearts.
The ride is unsteady, the path full of surprises yet every stumble, laugh, and lesson shapes the story of who we are.

Welcome to our oasis.

Where we celebrate the survival, wisdom and grit of a generation. Where we connect, belong and preserve our legacies. And where kindness is the essence.

Welcome

I’m Francesca Davino

founder of Life on a Three-Legged Camel Book Club. I am a lifelong book lover and writer, with a background in corporate communications and human interest storytelling.

I’m also 81 years old and I have realized that there is a quiet, unwritten rule out there that says once we reach a certain age or belong to a certain group, we should just sit back and stop being heard. I’ve felt that “invisibility” myself, and I know many of you have, too. Society has started looking right through me. I speak and no one listens; they just keep scrolling or talk over me. They no longer engage with me in an active exchange of ideas.

So, I decided to do something about it. I created this space as a safe haven – an oasis – where people like me can find community and a sense of belonging. Even though I remain very “old school” and technology is my arch-enemy, I realized a digital community was the solution. I even have trouble using my cell phone, so I personally dictated every piece of this website to be completely stress-free for myself and other self-described “techno-idiots” like me.

Our stories and our wisdom are important legacies that we must share and preserve. This community was created to give a home to those stories. Like our mascot, Peggy, the peg-legged camel, we have survived the bumpy road of life and we’ve got the scars to prove it. We’ve learned a lot along the way and the world needs our lived experiences and learned lessons.

This site is totally private and open exclusively to AARP members. Your AARP membership number is an absolute requirement for registration. This ensures that our space is a completely safe haven where we can share our stories in confidence, with complete security. No outside users, internet trolls, or bad actors can view or access the community.

If you, like me, refuse to become invisible, come to our oasis where you belong in a community of friends and fellow-travelers. Here, we proudly declare, “I was here. My life matters and this is my story.”

Please join us in our oasis, where you can publish your story and interact with like-minded other seniors in our robust online interactive community.

Mission Statement

The Three-Legged Camel Project celebrates the power of ordinary stories—tales of stumbling, learning, and getting back on the ride. We have crossed the arid desert, with the bruises, scars and learned wisdom to prove it. Our stories are important and must be preserved for future generations. Join us and declare to the world,
“I was here. My life mattered. This is my story.”
